Xiquet cooks Valencia with scholarship and fire: Danny Lledó's tasting menu builds to paella made the orthodox way — over burning orange wood — and the details around it earned a Michelin star.

Spanish fine dining in America defaults to tapas clichés or molecular tribute. Xiquet does neither; it plants a flag for one specific region and masters it. The wood-fired rice alone justifies the trip up Wisconsin Avenue.

The Spot
Xiquet by Danny Lledó is a Valencian fine-dining restaurant in Northwest Washington, built around an open wood-fire kitchen. Chef Danny Lledó's tasting menu runs over 20 compositions drawing on the coastal and agricultural traditions of Valencia, the region that also gave the world paella.

Dinner unfolds as a full sequence: guests are led up to a third-floor dining room, greeted with a welcome bite and a glass of vermouth while the chefs walk through the open kitchen. The meal closes in a second-floor mezzanine lounge with after-dinner drinks.

Wine runs through the experience via an extensive, focused list. Michelin awarded Xiquet one star in 2025, citing dishes like dill-cured bonito with ajo blanco and crisped-skin turbot with smoked trout roe beurre blanc, and praising "first-rate products procured with an eye toward sustainability."
