Our Take

Sunny's started as a pop-up on an empty lot in Little Haiti, picnic tables under a tree, paint already chipping — and the restaurant that grew out of it kept that loose, escapist energy instead of sanding it off. What's rare is that the party atmosphere doesn't come at the kitchen's expense. The steakhouse classics are deliberately knocked off-axis: a Caesar built around a thick crust of fried breadcrumbs, steak tartare spread onto sourdough and set over a burnt-leek aioli that gives a simple bar snack real depth. The pasta holds its own against the steak, which in a room this focused on scene is the hard part to get right.

Most places chasing a big-night-out feeling let the food go slack once the crowd shows up. Sunny's doesn't. The cooking stays sharp enough to be the actual reason people are glad they came, not just the thing that happens between drinks.

A Michelin Guide selection and a spot on a national year-end list confirm what the food already argues on its own. Sunny's earned the party. It also earned the plate in front of you.

The Spot
Sunny's started in 2020 as an outdoor steakhouse pop-up on an empty lot in Little Haiti — chipping paint, picnic tables scattered around a big tree. After 863 days of renovations, that pop-up became a full-blown restaurant, built by the team behind Jaguar Sun and following an earlier residency, Sunny's Someday Steakhouse, at Lot 6 in Little River.

The menu centers on steak and pasta, served in a room built around a party atmosphere — the kind of place that leans into its scene without letting the cooking take a back seat.

Michelin selected Sunny's for its guide in 2026, and the restaurant was included on The New York Times' Restaurant List in 2025.
