Our Take

Ogawa sits in Little Haiti, an unlikely home for a sushi counter chasing the highest level of the form, and the neighborhood is part of the case for it. This isn't an import dropped into a glass tower for tourists. It's a serious room doing serious work in a part of Miami that doesn't usually get credit for that kind of ambition.

Sushi at this register lives or dies on discipline — the rice, the fish, the pacing, the refusal to let a single course coast. Ogawa holds that line. Nothing here is stretched past what it needs to be, and nothing is cut to save money or time. That restraint is the hardest thing to fake in this cuisine, and it's the thing that separates a good counter from one worth crossing the city for.

Michelin agreed, awarding Ogawa a star in 2026 — recognition that puts it in the company of the format's most exacting practitioners, not its most expensive. Little Haiti now has a destination that earns the trip on its own terms.

The Spot
Ogawa runs a Kappo counter, meals eaten at the sushi bar where Master Chef Masayuki Komatsu and Chef Royce work the Edomae tradition. The menu opens with a series of small seasonal dishes, moves into 8 to 10 pieces of seasonal nigiri, and closes with a handroll, miso soup, and dessert. Ingredients are sourced from Japanese prefectures year-round and built around what's at peak freshness.

Komatsu trained at Sushiden in New York and worked as a sushi chef in Monaco before serving as head chef at Morimoto Miami. A beverage program built around sake, wine, and Japanese whiskies runs alongside the counter.

Michelin awarded Ogawa one star in its 2026 guide.
