Our Take

Sons & Daughters has moved into the Mission, and the move suits it. The tasting menu format hasn't changed — a steady progression built on precision rather than spectacle — but the room now carries an enigmatic, moody energy, black-and-white art on the walls, a sense of being somewhere slightly hidden even though the address is plain to find. That tension between restraint and theater is the house's real signature.

Service is the other argument. A welcome note calls each guest by name before the first course arrives. Young staff work with a focus that never tips into stiffness, and the pacing between courses lands exactly where it should — unhurried without ever stalling. Nothing about the night feels like an afterthought.

The food itself doesn't chase novelty, and it doesn't need to. What's on the plate is confident, well-built California cooking that trusts technique over gimmick, and the kitchen's consistency backs that up visit after visit.

Michelin has now given the restaurant two stars for 2026, recognition that confirms what the dining room already makes obvious. This is a kitchen operating at full control, in a space that finally matches its ambition.

The Spot
Sons & Daughters has relocated into the former Osito space in the Mission, where Executive Chef Harrison Cheney runs a 24-course tasting menu shaped around his own style. The food draws on New Nordic cuisine filtered through classical technique, with a running focus on the seasonality and sustainability of Northern California produce.

Michelin awarded the restaurant two stars in 2026, the same year it was named to North America's 50 Best Restaurants and the restaurant's chef was a James Beard Best Chef: California finalist.

Service is a defining part of the experience: attentive, well-paced staff guide guests through a meal that runs several hours, with flavors noted for their acidity and a kitchen that has built a reputation for consistent execution night after night.
