Our Take

Harborview is dim sum staged as event. The room on the Embarcadero stacks multiple levels with gold curtains and carved partitions, anchored by a bar and lounge built for groups who want a meal with some occasion to it, and a waterfront view that does real work on a plate of whole fried crab. This is not a quick cart stop. It's a destination.

The kitchen backs up the room often enough to matter. The baked barbecue pork buns are the standout, soft inside with a crackling sugar crust that adds real sweetness. Siu mai lands exactly where it should, tender without going soft. The menu runs wide past the usual steamed baskets into roast squab, mapo tofu, steamed clams — not every plate hits that peak, and the Peking duck in particular doesn't match the rest, but the hits outnumber the misses.

Prices run above the neighborhood average, and that's the fair complaint. What you're paying for is the whole package: a kitchen that's mostly on, a room built for a real night out, service that keeps a big table moving. Michelin selected it for the 2026 guide. That tracks with what's on the table.

The Spot
Harborview Restaurant & Bar sits on the Embarcadero, a multi-level Cantonese dim sum restaurant with gold curtains, carved partitions, and a bar and lounge built to make a meal feel like an occasion, with waterfront views over the bay. It was founded by Kinson Wong, who previously founded and owned R&G Lounge from 1985 to 2018.

The dim sum cart covers steamed kurobuta pork soup dumplings and steamed shrimp dumplings alongside chef's specials: Dungeness crab congee, Singapore-style chili Dungeness crab, black truffle Peking duck sliders, honey glazed barbecued pork, and a beef brisket and turnip hot pot. Live Dungeness crab with salt and pepper is a signature dish, and the kitchen jars its own X.O. chili sauce locally.

Michelin selected Harborview for its 2026 guide. Regulars point to the seafood and the bay views as reasons to come back.
