'O Munaciello traces back to Florence, Italy, where it first brought true Neapolitan pizza — high crust, dough leavened for 48 hours, baked only in a wood-fired oven — to the city in 2005. The MiMo District location, open since January 2017, keeps that format, sourcing Italian ingredients and staffing Italian pizza makers.
The dining room doesn't play it quiet: a life-size angel statue hangs from the ceiling with outstretched arms, a large diorama of an Italian village sits in one corner, and smaller statues are scattered throughout.
The crust, available in regular or black charcoal dough, comes soft and bubbly at the edges, thin and tender toward the center — substantial enough to require a fork and knife without turning soupy in the middle. The cornicione di ricotta, stuffed with ricotta along the crust, is one of the standouts. The menu runs through Neapolitan classics like Marinara, Margherita, and Capricciosa alongside gourmet versions such as Margherita DOP made with buffalo mozzarella, plus a gluten-free dough option and meter-long pizzas for groups.
