Our Take

Walrus Rodeo doesn't want to be called a pizzeria, even though pizza and lasagna anchor the menu, and the refusal makes sense once you see what's happening around those two dishes. Everything hot comes out of the same inherited pizza oven, but the real engine here is produce, pushed further than a pizza place has any business pushing it. An avocado salad has become the dish people would protest the loss of. Rhubarb shows up in a rum old fashioned. Vegetables migrate onto pizzas and into cocktails like they belong there, because here they do.

The unpretentious part is real, not a pose. This is a room that could lean on its pizza-oven gimmick and coast, and instead it keeps building a sharper, stranger thesis around fruit and vegetables treated with the attention most places save for protein. Octopus shares space with produce rather than dominating the plate.

Michelin selected it for the 2026 guide, and a separate recognition list caught it the same year. The accolades are catching up to something the kitchen already knew: this isn't a pizza place with good salads. It's a vegetable-driven restaurant that happens to have a pizza oven.

The Spot
Walrus Rodeo doesn't call itself a pizzeria or an Italian restaurant, even though pizza and a green lasagna with lamb ragout sit at the center of the menu. Everything hot that leaves the kitchen comes out of a single wood-fired pizza oven, inherited from whoever occupied the space before.

Over time, the menu has organized itself around produce. Vegetables and fruit show up across pizzas, salads, and the cocktail list, with seasonal availability steering what changes — rhubarb finds its way into an old fashioned in spring, and the avocado salad has developed a devoted following.

Beyond the pizza and lasagna, the kitchen runs a wide range through that same oven: beef tartare with smoked tallow aioli and kombu xo, bone marrow with smoked shallot soubise, Cantabrian anchovies with cultured butter, pulpo bravas with chorizo and potatoes, and a flat iron steak served with compound butter and frites.

Michelin selected Walrus Rodeo for its 2026 guide, and the restaurant was included on The New York Times' Restaurant List in 2024.
