Our Take

Los Félix is built around one conviction: corn is the entrée, not the vehicle. The masa for the tamales, tortillas, and arepas is milled in-house from heirloom varieties, and the milpa farming isn't a talking point. It shows up in a tamal that actually tastes like corn instead of serving as a blank carrier for filling. That's rare, and it's the reason to come.

The kitchen also knows its own density problem and expects you to order with restraint. A crudo first, something vegetable-forward second, then one masa dish — the tamal, the tétela, the crab arepa — rather than stacking four and losing the distinctions between them. Follow that shape and the menu reads as precise instead of repetitive.

The room is narrow, tucked downstairs from sister restaurant Krüs Kitchen, with none of the space the ambition suggests it deserves. That's a quirk, not a flaw worth dwelling on.

The Michelin star for 2026 and a spot on a national recognition list confirm what the plates already argue: a kitchen that took one specific idea, heirloom corn milled daily, and built something genuinely its own around it.

The Spot
Los Félix draws its cuisine from Meso-American and indigenous heritage, with a name meant to honor the grandmothers and mothers who carried that tradition forward, alongside a nod to actress María Félix. The restaurant frames its food through Milpa farming, an ancestral approach to the land that centers heirloom corn, cacao, chiles, and squash.

At the core of the kitchen is an in-house Molino, where corn is cooked and ground daily to make tortillas from scratch. That same house-milled masa runs through the tamales and arepas on the menu, with much of the menu built around heirloom corn.

The dining room sits downstairs from its sister restaurant, Krüs Kitchen, in a narrow space, with natural wine and a vinyl-record soundtrack shaping the atmosphere.

Michelin awarded Los Félix one star in 2026.
