Kumiko is a Japanese Dining Bar in Chicago's West Loop, led by chef, creative director, and beverage visionary Julia Momosé. The concept puts food and drink on equal footing, with each built with its own care rather than one serving as an afterthought to the other.
Guests can order à la carte from a rotating list of ingredient-driven dishes or opt into a seasonal tasting menu, paired against four different tracks: light cocktails, stirred cocktails, spirit-free drinks, or Japanese sake. The range of dishes spans delicate, refined plates alongside more comforting, fried ones, aiming to show a fuller picture of Japanese cuisine.
Michelin selected Kumiko for its Chicago guide in both 2024 and 2025. The James Beard Foundation named it a semifinalist and finalist for Outstanding Bar Program in 2025 before naming it the category's winner.
