Itoko

Itoko sits on the corner where Southport Lanes used to be, one of three restaurants from the same group planted there, and it's the one worth the trip. Two floors split the personality: upstairs runs quiet, built for the dinner where you actually want to hear the person across from you. Downstairs is the real draw, a bar that stays loud and a dining room where the sushi counter never really stops moving, chefs slicing and rolling in full view under a wall of basket lights.

The sushi is the argument, and it's not chasing a single showstopping moment. It's consistently good, night after night, which is a harder trick to sustain than one perfect omakase course. Itoko plays cousin to Momotaro in the West Loop, running a looser, more social version of the same small-plates-and-raw-fish game, without pretending to be more austere than a packed neighborhood bar needs to be.

It's open every night of the week, and that reliability is the point. Three consecutive years on Chicago's Michelin list confirm what the room already tells you: this delivers on a Monday the same as a Saturday, and that consistency is rarer than any single flashy dish.
