The Spot
Torai Sushi has served Capitol Hill from its 8th Street SE spot since 1992, with a familial, no-frills atmosphere rather than any fine-dining pretense. Its chefs trained at a sushi academy, and the menu covers a lot of ground: nigiri and sashimi sold à la carte or in combo platters, chirashi bowls, hand rolls, and party-sized sashimi and roll platters built for groups.

Beyond raw fish, the kitchen runs Hawaiian-style poke bowls, teriyaki and bulgogi bento boxes, and a ramen program built on a Paitan broth simmered for 14 hours and finished with nitamago, chashu, and bean sprouts. Regulars point to generous portions and a cozy, limited-seating room as part of the draw.

The Infatuation rated Torai Sushi 7.8/10.
