Das Ethiopian Cuisine sits at 28th and O Streets in Georgetown, running a white-tablecloth dining room since 2011 as a family operation. The elegant decor is a departure from the more casual settings typical of the genre, paired here with Ethiopian hospitality and time-honored recipes.
The menu covers Ethiopian staples built for sharing: doro wat (chicken in red pepper sauce with a hard-boiled egg), lamb tibs, and shrimp tibs sautéed with onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Sampler platters — a vegetarian version and a meat-and-veggie combination pairing chicken doro wat with beef wats and cubes — are meant to be eaten family-style over injera.
The restaurant has hosted a run of recognizable visitors over the years, among them chef Marcus Samuelsson and Dave Chappelle, and it appeared on PBS's "No Passport Required." Michelin selected Das Ethiopian Cuisine for its 2025 Washington DC guide.
