Our Take

Sorella sits on Russian Hill behind a neon sign and a dark, modern facade that breaks from the block's older storefronts. It comes from the team behind Acquerello, and the connection shows without copying the parent restaurant's formality — this is the loosened-up version, built for sharing plates rather than ceremony.

The menu backs that up in specifics. Veal meatballs and grilled razor clams anchor the shareable starters, and the housemade pastas carry the kitchen's best work: a squid ink linguini set in a spicy brodo that earns its spot on the table. The parmesan budino, heavy with truffle and silky enough to eat by the spoonful, is worth returning for on its own. Entrees rotate through a fish, pork chops, lamb osso buco — solid rather than showy.

That's the honest read on Sorella. Nothing here chases fireworks, but very little misses either. Service runs smooth, the room holds its energy, and the value stacks up against what you're paying for. Consistency is the real achievement, meal after meal.

Michelin selected Sorella for its 2026 guide. That's the right call for a kitchen that gets the fundamentals right every time out.

The Spot
Sorella is a casual restaurant and bar in Russian Hill, a sister property to Acquerello. Culinary Director Fernanda Baggio runs the kitchen with Chef/Owner Suzette Gresham, bringing a more relaxed, contemporary take on Italian cooking to the neighborhood. The space stands out on the block with a neon sign and a dark, modern exterior.

Pasta is the stated focus of the menu, with dishes like squid ink linguini served in a spicy brodo alongside shareable plates such as veal meatballs and grilled razor clams, and heavier entrees including pork chops and lamb osso buco. A parmesan budino finishes the menu on the richer end. At the bar, the focus shifts to regional Italian wines, amaro, and cocktails built around Italian flavors.

Michelin selected Sorella for its 2026 guide. Regulars point to the room's atmosphere and service as much as the food, and the kitchen has built a reputation for consistency.
