Our Take

The shaved pig head salad is the whole argument in one plate: glossy slices of pig head draped over frisée and Asian pears, cut with a sharp fish sauce vinaigrette. It's the kind of dish that doesn't resemble anything else in the city, and that originality runs through the rest of the menu too. This is a kitchen building its own vocabulary out of Hawaii, Asia, and California rather than translating anyone else's.

The room backs it up. Liholiho came back from a long hiatus with a refreshed interior and the same appetite for big, generous cooking, the kind of place people pick for anniversaries and birthdays and then talk about for years after. Service and atmosphere consistently land; the occasional complaint about pricing or an off night doesn't undo what the kitchen gets right far more often than not.

The recognition tracks the food rather than explaining it. A James Beard Best New Restaurant finalist nod on opening, a current Michelin selection, continued presence on the city's best-of conversation years later. Lower Nob Hill doesn't have many restaurants this confident in what they're trying to be. This one earns it.

The Spot
Liholiho Yacht Club serves Asian-American cooking in Lower Nob Hill. The shaved pig head salad is representative of the kitchen's approach: frisée and Asian pears tossed in a fish sauce vinaigrette, surrounding glossy slices of pig head that go tender immediately. Cocktails draw regular mention alongside the seafood dishes, with service staying attentive in a room that reads upscale and portions that run generous.

The restaurant closed for two years starting in 2020 and came back with a refreshed interior. Its team also opened Good Good Culture Club, a sister restaurant in the Mission.

Michelin selected Liholiho Yacht Club for its 2026 guide. The restaurant was a James Beard Foundation Best New Restaurant finalist in 2016, and the restaurant's chef was a Best Chef semifinalist in 2017.
