Don Chuys Mexi-Mercado

Don Chuy's Mexi-Mercado operates out of the back of a corner store in the Excelsior, where carnitas have been cooked since the 1970s — shredded pork with crispy edges that anchors the menu. The super burrito, stuffed with carnitas and topped with pickled jalapeños and carrots, is the thing to get, though tacos are also on offer for something smaller. Tamales, tortas, and nachos round out a to-go menu built around a market-store setup rather than a sit-down dining room.
