The Spot
The Halfway Club brings a Midwestern tavern and supper club sensibility to the Excelsior, spread across a bar, dining room, lounge, and patio built with vintage character and warm lighting. The food leans into fried comfort and cheese-heavy classics: a Caesar salad topped with popcorn chicken, a Chicago dog made with Vienna Beef sausage and the full standard toppings, and waffle fries served Cincinnati-style, smothered in beef chili. Chicken wings, burgers, and fish tacos round out a menu built on familiar favorites, alongside dishes like Bacon Ranch Deviled Eggs, Broccolini Satay, and Spicy Rigatoni. The bar program includes craft cocktails such as a Wisconsin Old-Fashioned made with Argonaut Brandy, plus local beer and wine.

Regular live music, trivia nights, and patio performances keep the space active as a community gathering spot, and the restaurant has built a following among neighborhood regulars. The Halfway Club was a James Beard Foundation Best New Bar semifinalist in 2025.
