Our Take

The Restaurant at North Block sits in Yountville doing straightforward American cooking, and most nights it delivers exactly what a Napa Valley meal should: a room with real atmosphere, service that pays attention, food that earns the trip. The strengths show up consistently — the kind of hospitality that makes a table feel taken care of, not just seated and served.

The inconsistency is real, though. Some visits land on food that reads as ordinary rather than special, and the pricing doesn't leave room for an off night. When the kitchen is on, the tab feels fair for the experience. When it isn't, the gap between cost and plate becomes the whole conversation.

Michelin's guide selected it, which tracks with the ceiling this place can hit. It hasn't locked in that level every time, and that keeps it out of the top tier. But the baseline here is high enough, and the good nights good enough, that it's worth booking a table and taking the risk.

The Spot
The Restaurant at North Block sits within North Block Hotel on Washington Street, where Chef Antonio Natal cooks Northern California coastal cuisine drawing on the farms, valleys, and coastlines of the region. Live-fire cooking runs through the menu, applied to seafood, vegetables, and handmade pasta, with a chef's tasting menu available alongside the à la carte offerings.

The cocktail program, created by longtime local bartender Coy Estes, runs alongside the food rather than as an afterthought. Dining happens inside, at the bar, or in the dog-friendly courtyard, which doubles as a setting for private events and gatherings. The hotel also uses the dining room and lobby as rotating gallery space through its ongoing exhibition series, A Living Canvas, presented with regional artists and galleries.

The Restaurant at North Block was recommended in the 2025 Michelin Guide and selected for inclusion in the 2026 Michelin Guide to Wine Country.

Regulars point to the courtyard atmosphere and attentive service as reasons to return, calling the food and hospitality here worth the trip despite sitting somewhat in the shadow of Yountville's bigger names.
