Michael's Genuine has been in the Design District since before the neighborhood filled with luxury shops and photo-op murals, and it has kept a lower-key identity through that change. The New American menu leans toward the approachable end — roasted chicken is a draw — without feeling like it's trying to compete with flashier newcomers nearby.
The dining room stays simple: white walls, limewash chairs, plants hanging from the ceiling, and red water glasses on the tables. A dark red bar anchors happy hour, where deviled eggs and shrimp toast draw a crowd waiting out traffic.
Michelin awarded the restaurant a Bib Gourmand in 2026. It has also collected a string of James Beard semifinalist and finalist nods going back to 2008, both for the restaurant itself and for its kitchen, including two years as a finalist for Outstanding Pastry Chef.
