Our Take

Perseid comes from the team that built Bludorn and Bar Bludorn, and it carries the same instinct for making a room feel important. Set inside the Saint Augustine Hotel in Montrose, it gives you a choice between the marbled bar and the hotel dining room, with service so attentive the meal runs on its own momentum.

The kitchen gets more right than wrong. Escargot draped over puffed pastry is the kind of small, precise dish that justifies the room around it, and the duck is well-prepared, classic French technique done with real control. Not everything lands — soggy sausages and an au poivre sauce pushed too sweet show the menu hasn't been fully sanded down. But a careful order here produces a genuinely satisfying meal, not a compromised one.

Recognition has followed fast. Perseid landed on Michelin's Houston selection and made Bon Appétit's Best New Restaurants list in its first year, and local coverage has kept it on the city's must-try radar. That's the right read. Order smart, sit at the bar, and Perseid delivers exactly the evening it's promising.

The Spot
Perseid sits inside Hotel Saint Augustine in Montrose, led by chef Aaron Bludorn alongside front-of-house partner Cherif Mbodji. The name — pronounced Per-see-id — nods to the Perseid meteor shower that peaks every August, a wink at Houston's space-city identity.

The kitchen runs classic French bistro technique through a Gulf Coast lens, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. Bludorn has described the food as straightforward on the surface with nuanced turns in each dish, drawing on ingredients and ideas from across Houston's food scene. Regulars point to the steak and pasta, and the room reads as intimate and elegant despite its neighborhood-bistro pitch.

Perseid is Michelin Selected in the Texas guide's debut year, was named to Houstonia Magazine's best-of list in 2025, and made Bon Appétit's Best New Restaurants list the same year. It sits alongside Augustine Lounge, the hotel's adjoining bar for cocktails and light fare.
