Katami is the Montrose restaurant from chef Manabu Horiuchi (Chef Hori-San), partner Yun Cheng, and managing partner Ryan Snyder, the same trio behind Kata Robata, which they opened in 2009. The name translates to "gift" or "keepsake" in Japanese, and the menu is built around sushi, wagyu, and sake.
The recognition has piled up since opening. Katami has landed on the Eater 38 and Houstonia Magazine's 2025 best-of list for the city, and The Infatuation scored it 9.6/10. Robb Report included it among its Best New Restaurants in both 2024 and 2026, and Horiuchi was named a semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation's Outstanding Chef award in 2026.
Regulars describe the service as attentive and knowledgeable, with staff steering diners through the menu, and the room has developed a reputation as a special-occasion destination.
