Tamales By La Casita has been turning out handmade tamales in Highland since Paul Sandoval began making them in 1974, with the restaurant itself opening the following year. It's stayed a family-run operation, working from New Mexican traditions that draw on Mexican, Native American, and Spanish influences.
Tamales — green, red, and vegetarian — are the signature, made fresh each morning with masa and the family's own fillings, alongside homemade green and red chile sauces. The rest of the menu stays close to that same New Mexican base: breakfast burritos, enchiladas, and green chile.
DiningOut Denver named Tamales By La Casita one of its best restaurants for 2026.
