Mezcaleria Alma sits beside Alma Fonda Fina, chef Johnny Curiel's first solo restaurant, in Denver's Highland/LoHi neighborhood. Where that original restaurant leans into the home-cooked fondas of Curiel's childhood, Mezcaleria Alma is built around the different energy of Mexico City itself: CDMX-inspired small plates with a seafood focus, paired with a spirits program of more than 120 agave expressions. The restaurant is part of Fonda Fina Hospitality.
The pairing of food and agave is the point here — small plates designed to run alongside mezcal, tequila, and other agave spirits rather than a traditional entrée-driven menu.
Recognition arrived quickly. Michelin awarded Mezcaleria Alma one star in 2025, the same year Bon Appétit named it to its Best New Restaurants list and The New York Times included it on its Restaurant List. Diners have come to know it for food described as consistent and authentic, part of what's made it one of Denver's higher-profile Mexican tables.
