Chicago has no shortage of steakhouses with a clear identity — corporate polish, see-and-be-seen energy, comfortable nostalgia. Prime & Provisions doesn't fit any of those boxes, and that turns out to be the point. The steaks hold their own against the city's established names, which is the baseline any serious steakhouse has to clear. What separates this place is everything built around that baseline.

The fried chicken has no business being this good at a steakhouse, and it's not a novelty item — it's a genuine competitor for the best thing on the table. Lavender sea salt on the bread service is a small, odd detail that signals a kitchen willing to be a little strange rather than just correct. The sides and desserts carry real weight instead of functioning as filler around the protein, which is where most steakhouses quietly coast.

The Loop room backs it up with the kind of confident, slightly theatrical presence a steakhouse this ambitious should have. A Michelin selection in 2025 confirms what the food already argues: this is a steakhouse doing more work than the category requires, and it shows in every course.

The Spot
Prime & Provisions sits at 222 North LaSalle in the Chicago Loop, positioning itself as a traditional steakhouse built on a la carte dining rather than tasting-menu formality. Beef is dry-aged in a 500-square-foot room lined with Himalayan rock salt, then seared in a 1,200-degree broiler and delivered on a sizzling plate with sea salt and Wisconsin grass-fed butter.

The menu extends well past the chophouse basics. Luxury Bites include Kaluga caviar potato skins, a Wagyu pavé hand-cut tartare, and a lobster croquette with brown butter hollandaise, while First Course options run from roasted bone marrow and a lump blue crab cake to steak tartare and full Osetra caviar service. Chilled seafood — East and West Coast oysters among them — rounds out the raw bar.

Beyond the steaks themselves, the kitchen's sides and desserts have drawn attention, with dishes like a fried chicken and a banana cream pie mentioned alongside the mac and cheese as reasons regulars return. Michelin selected Prime & Provisions in its 2025 guide.
