Our Take

Indienne set out to prove Indian cuisine belongs in the tasting-menu conversation, and the star on the door settled the argument. Sujan Sarkar's kitchen runs classical Indian flavor through modern structure — courses that read as fine dining and eat as unmistakably, deeply Indian.

River North is thick with restaurants that spend more on the room than the food. This one inverts the ratio. The star arrived in 2023 and the Beard nods came fast, and Indian fine dining in Chicago now has an address.

The Spot
Indienne serves progressive Indian fine dining from a Huron Street address in River North, part of a menu built as a multi-course tasting format that moves between vegetarian and non-vegetarian plates. Kulcha, lobster, and house-made bread are among the dishes diners return to and mention most.

Michelin has awarded Indienne one star every year from 2023 through 2025. Bon Appétit named it among its Best New Restaurants in 2023, and the James Beard Foundation has recognized the kitchen's chef in back-to-back years — a finalist for Best Chef: Great Lakes in 2024, a semifinalist in 2025.

Service and room are frequently cited as strengths of the experience. Indienne also operates a New York location.
