Our Take

Giant doesn't need an angle. It's an American restaurant that skips the concept and the shtick and just cooks with more energy than the room around it can quite contain. That energy is the whole case: dishes that could easily coast on a gastropub premise instead arrive sharpened, considered, clearly the product of people who care whether the plate in front of you is actually good.

There's no gimmick to point to, no story to tell before you eat, which is rarer than it sounds in a neighborhood this saturated with concepts. The food does the talking, dish after dish, without a weak one to excuse.

The recognition backs up what the plates already argue. Four Michelin Bib Gourmands across six years is not a fluke of one strong season, and a James Beard Outstanding Chef finalist nod confirms the kitchen behind it is operating at a serious level. Giant earns the deserved swear word. Eat here.

The Spot
Giant runs an a la carte menu out of a Logan Square dining room centered on charcoal grilling and produce from Frillman Farms, Klug Farm peaches, and Michigan-sourced blueberries and lamb. Bread is made in-house, a homemade sourdough that anchors the pasta courses.

The menu leans into a handful of dishes that have become identifiers for the restaurant: bucatini with bacon, jalapeño, and anchovy; saffron tagliatelle with Dungeness crab; scallops with nam phrik and crispy rice salad; and Michigan lamb kofta with cream naan and harissa glaze. Regulars have built a following around the place, with service and food quality frequently singled out by loyal patrons.

Michelin has awarded Giant a Bib Gourmand in the Chicago guide repeatedly — 2025, 2024, 2021, and 2019 — and the restaurant's chef was named a James Beard Foundation Outstanding Chef finalist in 2022.
