Our Take

Giulia has run the same room since 2012, and the engine is visible the moment you walk in: a big white oak table near the open kitchen where the pasta gets made by hand before the doors open. That's not theater. It shows up on the plate in tagliatelle and other noodles that taste like someone's hands were on them an hour earlier, not a machine's.

What makes it work is the range. Big families spread across shared plates of pasta and burrata on one side of the room, a couple who shows up monthly trading notes with their regular waiter on the other. Few places hold both a casual neighborhood hang and a special-occasion destination at once without compromising either, and Giulia has held it for over a decade. Portions run smaller than expected and the kitchen has off nights — fair complaints, not disqualifying ones against a track record this long.

Michelin selected Giulia in its 2025 guide, recognition that confirms what the regulars already knew. This is a restaurant that earned its neighborhood loyalty the hard way, one plate of hand-rolled pasta at a time, and it's still worth the trip from anywhere in the city.

The Spot
Giulia has been a fixture in Porter Square since 2012, the kind of brick-walled, open-kitchen dining room that works as both a casual weeknight hang and a special-occasion spot. Pasta is made fresh daily at the Pasta Table, a large table set up near the kitchen specifically for that purpose.

The dinner menu leans on handmade pasta: bucatini all'amatriciana made with house-cured pancetta, tagliolini bolognese using local Devon beef, rigatoni with lamb sausage and local farm chilies, pappardelle with braised wild boar, and tortelli di carne. Antipasti include hiramasa crudo and buffalo mozzarella with hen of the woods mushrooms, while secondi run to grilled swordfish and a butcher's cut of Longest Acres beef.

Larger groups can arrange to eat family-style at the Pasta Table itself. Michelin selected Giulia for its guide in 2025.
