Our Take

Lenoir works out of a converted bungalow on South First Street, and the setting does real work: a rustic dining room that feels lived-in, an outdoor wine garden under old oak cover, the kind of place that invites you to stay past dessert. That comfort is a setup. The kitchen is running Goan-inspired cooking with real intensity, and it doesn't soften itself for the room's ease.

The a la carte menu is solid, but the five-course chef's choice is where the place shows what it's actually capable of, mixing standing favorites with off-menu dishes that often outclass everything else on the table. A melon vindaloo and a scotch bonnet broth aren't outliers — they're the baseline. Spice here isn't a garnish, it's structure, and the kitchen trusts it enough to build whole dishes around it rather than dialing it back for comfort.

That combination — a room built for lingering, food built to demand attention — is a harder trick than it looks. Local coverage keeps returning to it, and Michelin has selected it two years running. The recognition tracks. This is a kitchen with a clear point of view, executing it with control instead of noise.

The Spot
Lenoir takes its name from a hardy grape rootstock found across the Texas Hill Country, a nod to the region its kitchen draws from. Todd Duplechan and Jessica Maher met cooking in New York before opening this farm-to-table restaurant in Austin in early 2012 — Todd a native Texan raised on Cajun and German-American cooking, Jess raised in Northern Nevada with Irish and Spanish family traditions.

The two work side-by-side on the food and the business, cooking seasonal Central Texas ingredients with spice, heat, and bold flavor, tuned to the weather as much as the calendar. Beer and wine come from grower-producers around the world.

Lenoir has been named to Michelin's Selected list in both 2024 and 2025, earned an 8.5 from The Infatuation, and was picked as a best-of by A Taste of Koko.
