The Spot
Musang occupies a periwinkle-colored craftsman house on Beacon Hill, a home converted into a restaurant rather than built as one. The name comes from chef/owner Melissa Miranda's father, a Filipino immigrant who settled in the neighborhood and became known by the nickname after the T fell off the Mustang decal on his car — Musang being Tagalog for wild cat. The restaurant describes itself as community-driven rather than chef-driven, serving personal, intimate Filipino dishes rooted in Miranda's childhood memories of cooking alongside her father.

Smoked oysters are among the dishes that have kept people coming back, part of a menu built around Filipino cooking and a seasonal beverage program.

Miranda has been a James Beard Foundation semifinalist for Best Chef in 2022, a semifinalist for Best Chef: Northwest Pacific in 2023, a finalist in 2024, and a semifinalist again in 2026. Seattle Met named Musang to its 2025 Best list, and the restaurant has also appeared on other citywide best-of rosters.
