The Spot
Le Coq is chef Tara Monsod's French Asian steakhouse in La Jolla, housed in a 1930s building with exposed brick, steel trusses, and a barrel-vaulted ceiling that's been reworked into a posh 1970s-style diner club. Monsod, who has cooked at Juniper & Ivy, Herringbone, Burlap, and Mozza, also runs the kitchen at ANIMAE.

The menu leans on classic French technique filtered through an Asian American lens, built from local seafood and farmers-market ingredients, with dishes that pull from Monsod's own upbringing.

Le Coq is part of the Puffer Malarkey Collective, alongside ANIMAE, Herb & Sea, Herb & Wood, and Herb & Ranch. San Diego Magazine named it to its Best of 2025 list, and it's been covered by The Infatuation.
