The Spot
CUCINA urbana sits on Laurel Street in Bankers Hill, part of Urban Kitchen Group's family of San Diego restaurants. The concept pairs a full Italian dining room with a retail wine shop built into the space, one of Southern California's early takes on that format.

The kitchen runs an in-house program of house-made charcuterie, sausage, and cheese, plus breads and pastas made from scratch, with the menu built around Italian flavors filtered through California's local farms and seasonal produce. Dishes that regularly come up include squash blossoms, polenta, branzino, and a rotating lineup of pasta, alongside pizza and shareable appetizers suited to eating family style.

The wine list runs deep — more than 200 labels weighted toward Italian and California producers, available by the glass or to take home through the attached shop.

CUCINA urbana has held a Michelin Bib Gourmand in multiple guides, including 2026, 2025, 2024, 2022, 2021, and 2019.
