Bud & Marilyn's takes its name from chef Marcie Blaine Turney's grandparents, Blaine ("Bud") and Marilyn, who ran a restaurant called The Spot in her hometown of Ripon, Wisconsin. Turney grew up around that restaurant, and this corner spot at 13th and Locust is her homage to it, built around an American menu of simple, well-prepared comfort food.
Turney runs the kitchen while co-owner Valerie Safran, a former 8th-grade Spanish teacher, handles front-of-house and financial operations. The two have worked together since 2002, and their run of restaurants and boutiques along 13th Street — including Little Nonna's, Barbuzzo, Jamonera, and Lolita — is credited with helping turn the once-quiet stretch into what's now known as Midtown Village.
The room seats groups comfortably and has built a steady base of regulars, with service and atmosphere that keep people coming back.
