Bistro Jeanty has been serving classic home-style French cuisine in Yountville since April 1998, the passion project of chef Philippe Jeanty. Born in Champagne, Jeanty learned to cook helping his grandmother and mother feed a large family, then trained under chef Joseph Thuet at Moët & Chandon starting at age 14. He came to Yountville in 1977 with a team from Epernay to open the Chandon Restaurant, was named executive chef within a year, and spent two decades building a reputation in Napa Valley before turning back toward the simpler, family-style French food of his childhood.
That shift produced Bistro Jeanty: fresh, quality ingredients prepared with care and served in a comfortable, informal room rather than a fine-dining one. The restaurant remains family-run.
Michelin awarded Bistro Jeanty one star for three consecutive years, 2007 through 2009. Philippe Jeanty was also a James Beard Foundation finalist for Best Chef in 2001, 2002, and 2003, and a finalist for Best New Restaurant in 1999.
