Black Sheep Coal Fired Pizza opened as the first coal-burning pizza restaurant in Minnesota, using anthracite coal ovens that reach dome temperatures of at least 1200 degrees. That heat is the point: hand-tossed crusts, layered with what the restaurant calls premium ingredients, bake hot and fast in a nod to the coal-oven pizza tradition of Brooklyn, Manhattan, and New Haven.
Beyond pizza, the menu covers salads, grilled meats, and wings, plus house-made desserts including a fan-favorite ice cream sandwich. A full bar pours Minnesota craft beer alongside craft cocktails.
The original North Loop location has since expanded to a second Twin Cities spot, carrying the same coal-fired approach across both.
