Our Take

La Camaronera is a fish market that happens to also run one of the best fry stations in Miami, and it does not dress up the fact. One room, an open kitchen, small tables that fill fast, and a counter running the length of the place for when they do. None of that matters once the food shows up.

The pan con minuta is the reason to drive past it twice looking for parking. A whole snapper filet, fried light and crisp, stuffed into a sandwich that has no business working as well as it does — the fish stays flaky under the crust instead of turning into mush. The rest of the menu backs it up rather than coasting beside it: oysters, shrimp, conch, grouper, lobster, all treated with the same unfussy confidence. This is a kitchen that fries seafood for a living and has stopped needing to prove it.

There's no pretense of a dining room experience here, and that's the point. You stand at a counter or squeeze into a small table, and you eat better fried fish than you will anywhere else in the city with a tablecloth. Little Havana doesn't need La Camaronera to be anything other than what it is. Neither does anyone eating there.

The Spot
La Camaronera sits on Flagler Street in Little Havana, easy to drive past and hard to forget once you've found it. The setup is casual: one big room, an open kitchen, small tables that suit groups of two or four, and a long counter for standing when things fill up, which they often do.

The menu runs through the standard South Florida seafood lineup — oysters, shrimp, conch, grouper, lobster — all available fried. The restaurant is known in particular for its pan con minuta, a sandwich built around a full fried snapper filet.

La Camaronera was included on The New York Times' Restaurant List in 2024.
