Our Take

Lung Yai has been doing the same thing since 2015: a walk-in-only Thai spot on Calle Ocho where you eat elbow to elbow with strangers at a communal table and don't complain about it. That's not nostalgia talk — the khao soi, the crispy chicken wings, and the spicy beef salad have stayed consistent long enough to turn first-timers into regulars. The kitchen isn't chasing a reputation. It built one by repetition.

It's not the best Thai food in Miami, and it was never a secret — it's something more useful, a neighborhood fixture that still draws a line on weekends because the cooking holds up under pressure. The room is small, the counter seats are gone, and you wait. That's the price of a kitchen that hasn't needed to change anything about how it runs.

Michelin selected it in 2026, which is confirmation, not surprise. Lung Yai earned its following one plate of khao soi at a time, and it still delivers on the reputation it built. Go hungry, go patient, and sit wherever they put you.

The Spot
Lung Yai Thai Tapas opened in Little Havana in 2015, led by a Bangkok-born chef cooking Thai street food that balances salty, sweet, sour, and spicy flavors. The restaurant is built around a communal picnic table at the heart of Calle Ocho, where diners eat shoulder to shoulder with strangers.

Red and green curries and the palo moo are signature dishes on the menu, alongside khao soi, crispy chicken wings, and a spicy beef salad that have developed a serious following over the years.

Michelin selected Lung Yai Thai Tapas for its 2026 guide.
