Our Take

Tavernetta runs the Italian trifecta straight down the middle: handmade pastas, a serious wine list, hospitality that doesn't flag. That alone would make it solid. What pushes it further is a New York strip finished with charred eggplant and ricotta salata, a steak that has no business being this good in a room built around pasta.

The details compound. A spacious bar pours a real spritz list. A fireplace does actual work in the room instead of sitting there for atmosphere. An after-dinner cookie plate closes the meal instead of just ending it. None of this is cheap — pastas run high, the branzino runs higher — but the plate in front of you justifies the number every time.

Three straight years of a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a James Beard Best Chef finalist nod aren't the reason to go. They're confirmation of what the kitchen already proves on the plate: pasta done properly, a steak worth crossing town for, and a room that makes you want to stay through the last course.

The Spot
Tavernetta sits in Denver's Ballpark District, part of Frasca Hospitality Group alongside Frasca Food and Wine, Pizzeria Alberico, and Osteria Alberico. The kitchen, led by Executive Chef Cody Cheetham, works from an open kitchen setup and builds its menu around handmade pastas paired with an Italian-directed wine and spirits list.

Gnocchi, bucatini, and focaccia are the dishes diners mention most, with affogato and gelato closing out meals. The open kitchen is a visible part of the dining room itself, something regulars and first-timers alike tend to notice.

Diners consistently point to the food, service, and atmosphere as reasons they keep coming back, and the restaurant has built a reputation for authenticity in its approach to Italian cooking.

Michelin has awarded Tavernetta a Bib Gourmand for three consecutive years, 2023 through 2025. The restaurant's kitchen was also a James Beard Foundation Best Chef finalist in 2022 and earned a StarChefs Rising Stars honor the same year.
