Nuri Steakhouse

Nuri takes its name from the Korean word for "whole world," and the menu means it: Korean technique layered against Louisiana and Texas roots, all filtered through a steakhouse frame. The gumbo and the steak tartare each come plated two ways, East against West, meant to be eaten side by side — a small structural idea that turns into the most interesting thing on the table. The steaks themselves are the real anchor, and they hold up against anything else in the city doing the same job.

The room backs up the ambition. High ceilings, chandeliers, hand-painted wallpaper, upholstered booths — money clearly went into making this feel nothing like the wood-paneled steakhouses Dallas already has plenty of. It reads as a place built for a corporate card and a special occasion, and it delivers on that promise rather than just performing it.

This isn't a steakhouse coasting on tradition. It's one arguing for a new version of the form, and mostly winning the argument. National recognition lists have taken notice, and D Magazine has kept it on the map locally. The diversions could misfire elsewhere; here they're the reason to go.
