The Dawson takes its name from William and Henry Dawson, whose fireplace mantle company once operated out of a cluster of buildings on this site in Chicago. The current restaurant occupies a two-story space at 730 West Grand Avenue, built with an open kitchen and an industrial-warm design meant to flex between casual nights and larger private gatherings.
The kitchen cooks wood-fired, with an American menu that runs from brunch through dinner. The beverage side gets equal billing: a rotating list of craft cocktails, a curated wine selection, and beers and spirits chosen to work alongside the wood-fired dishes.
The Dawson was selected for the Michelin Guide in 2021.
