Our Take

Goosefoot's whole premise is what happens when a chef takes fine dining's discipline and strips out the stiffness. The owner ran the kitchen at Les Nomades before opening his own room in Lincoln Square, and he kept the technique and precision while shedding the formality that came with it. The result reads as genuinely elegant food served without the theater of white-glove seriousness — a tasting menu that takes itself seriously in the kitchen and not at all at the table.

The BYOB setup is part of the argument, not a footnote. It turns what could be a stuffy occasion into something looser and more social, letting the cooking carry the weight instead of the ceremony around it. That's the neighborhood coming through in a restaurant built for a different, tougher standard.

Michelin recognized that standard for years running, awarding the restaurant a star from 2013 through 2021 and keeping it in the guide's selection since. That's not a fluke read — it's a decade of consistency in a format that punishes drift. Goosefoot earned its reputation by being exacting where it counts and relaxed everywhere else.

The Spot
Goosefoot is chef-owned and chef-operated: Chris and Nina Nugent handle both the kitchen and the dining room at their Lincoln Square restaurant. The cooking is an elaborate multi-course tasting menu, an artful blend of French technique and modern vision built from small artisan farm products.

The restaurant recently moved into a new home in the heart of Lincoln Square, done in a palette of grays with touches of gold and black, and now runs a curated wine program alongside the tasting menu.

Michelin awarded Goosefoot one star every year from 2013 through 2018 and again in 2021, and selected it for the 2023 guide. James Beard named Chef Nugent a Best Chef semifinalist in 2012 and 2013.
