Brown's Bar-B-Que started as family cookouts before turning into pop-ups at ACL weekend near Barton Springs, and eventually into a standalone restaurant on S Lamar Blvd in Zilker. The family tradition behind the smoker is still the throughline of the place today.
The menu runs through Texas barbecue staples sold by the pound — brisket, turkey, pork ribs, beef ribs, sausage, pulled pork, and chicken — along with candied pork belly bites, boudin, and sandwiches and wraps built on the same smoked meats. Sides cover the standard lineup of mac and cheese, beans, potato salad, slaw, cabbage, corn on the cob, and green beans, with banana pudding and Dutch oven peach cobbler for dessert.
Regulars point to the brisket and the value as reasons they keep coming back, and the restaurant has grown a catering arm handling weddings, corporate events, and parties around Austin.
