Cultura occupies one of South Slope's more visually ambitious rooms: moon-like orbs hang from the ceiling, edible mushrooms grow along the walls, and part of the seating is built inside a giant wine barrel. The kitchen runs a six-course chef's tasting menu centered on fermentation technique.
The restaurant's Cultivated Community Dinner Series brings in local chefs to cook alongside the Cultura kitchen, and dishes born from those collaborations make their way onto the regular menu. One example: Zapoteca heirloom beans brought from Oaxaca by chef Luis Martinez, finished with mole, smoked chicken, and cured egg yolk.
Cultura was named a semifinalist for Best New Restaurant by the James Beard Foundation in 2020.
