The Spot
Open Crumb is a scratch kitchen built around family: co-owner and head chef Peter Opare runs the place alongside his mother, cooking West African food from raw ingredients with bread and desserts made in house. The storefront is takeout-focused and unassuming, geared toward quick in-and-out service.

The menu leans on West African staples — jollof rice built on a mix of red pepper, curry, and garlic powder, and a peanut soup made with peanut butter and a smoky tomato base. Goat stew, kutumeri served with fufu, beef patties, and a fried chicken sandwich round out a menu that mixes West African dishes with American comfort food.

Regulars keep coming back for the portions and the consistency, and Open Crumb has built a reputation as a neighborhood staple on H Street.
