Our Take

Chloe works Mediterranean flavors through a Navy Yard room built around a long Nordic dining table, the kind of communal setup that turns a meal into an occasion rather than a transaction. The kitchen leans on what's actually in season, and it shows in the small stuff done right: fried cauliflower with real crisp-to-tender contrast, fingerling potatoes finished with Old Bay that taste like someone actually thought about the seasoning instead of defaulting to it.

This is food built to be shared and talked over, and the room is designed for exactly that. It reads as a place locals bring people they want to impress, which only works if the kitchen backs it up. Here it does.

The recognition has been consistent rather than one-off — a James Beard semifinalist nod, a Michelin Bib Gourmand, then two straight years of Michelin selection. That's not a flash of buzz; it's a kitchen that's held its standard across changing guides. Washingtonian has kept it on its own list too. The vegetables are the reason to go, and they're reason enough.

The Spot
Chloe is built around Chef Haidar Karoum's own culinary path — Lebanese roots layered with travel through Western Europe and Southeast Asia, grounded in seasonal Mid-Atlantic ingredients. The small plates format lets that range play out across the menu rather than in a single dish.

The dining room centers on an open kitchen, with a Chef's Counter positioned for the closest view of the cooking. Dishes that come up often among diners include fingerling potatoes, gnocchi, sea bream, hummus, wild mushrooms, brussels sprouts, and fries.

Chloe earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2021 and has been Michelin Selected in both the 2024 and 2025 Washington DC guides. Chef Haidar Karoum was also a James Beard Foundation Best Chef semifinalist in 2019.
