Named after the Nepali word for Mount Everest, Sagarmatha Kitchen is a neighborhood restaurant in the Richmond District serving Indian and Himalayan dishes side by side. Momos are the signature order here — steamed and fried dumplings, including a chili chicken version in a bright red sauce — and the menu runs long enough to cover both traditions without strain.
Sekuwa and Taas sets built around goat, mutton, and chicken sit alongside a Bhutan Set of fried goat intestines and a Buff Sukuti of dried buffalo meat, all finished with Himalayan herbs and spices. The Indian side holds its own with dal tadka, charred chicken tikka kababs, home-made samosas, and a Goat Biryani. A Thakali thali rounds things out with bone-in chicken curry, raayo ko saag, lentil soup, and rice.
It runs as a casual, walk-in-friendly spot, as suited to a spontaneous group dinner as to a takeout order eaten on the couch.
