Our Take

Prospect reads as a SoMa office crowd's favorite dinner, and that's not a knock. The room handles the after-work rush and the full-dress dinner with the same ease, and the kitchen backs it up with dishes built to be eaten again and again: fried green tomatoes with a genuinely good crust, a heritage pork chop seared hard enough to matter, a duck breast playing sweet against hoisin. None of it is trying to be a once-a-year event. It's trying to be the place you default to, and it earns that.

The tradeoff shows up at the margins. Pricing runs ahead of what a few of the dishes deliver, and the kitchen's consistency wobbles meal to meal in ways a room this polished shouldn't allow. The menu rotates with the seasons, which means the mainstays carry more weight than they should.

What holds it together is execution on the things that count: service that keeps pace, a dining room with real energy, food that lands more often than not. A James Beard Best New Restaurant semifinalist nod and a spot in the current Michelin selection back up what the room already proves — this is a restaurant built for repeat visits, and it holds up to them.

The Spot
Prospect sits in SoMa, pairing a dining room with a bar and lounge that draws an after-work crowd looking for a drink, a quick bite, or a full dinner. Chef Nancy Oakes and co-owner and operator Pam Mazzola run the kitchen, building menus around seasonal ingredients sourced from local farms and markets.

The menu includes small plates, shareable pastas, and entrees that rotate with the seasons, anchored by mainstays like fried green tomatoes, a heritage pork chop with a seared crust, and a duck breast glazed with hoisin. The bar side of the room carries its own energy, pouring drinks for happy hour as readily as it serves full dinners.

Michelin selected Prospect for its 2026 guide. The restaurant was also a James Beard Foundation Best New Restaurant semifinalist in 2011.
