The Spot
Buona Forchetta started in 2011, when Matteo set out to bring the recipes he grew up on in Italy to a corner spot in South Park. It's built around a wood-fired oven — nicknamed Sofia, made by hand by Stefano Ferrara — with a crown and dome of pressed brick and a floor formed from Biscotto di Sorrento clay imported from Italy's Sorrento region, engineered to hold the 700–1000°F heat Neapolitan pizza-making requires.

The menu runs a la carte, built around that pizza alongside hand-made pastas and Italian seafood dishes. The South Park location remains part of a small group that has since grown to several spots around San Diego County.

San Diego Magazine named Buona Forchetta among its Best Restaurants for 2025.
