Chris Madrid's has been serving San Antonio since 1977, when a young college graduate named Chris Madrid came home to open his namesake spot — originally called Chris Madrid's Tacos and Burgers — in the historic Beacon Hill neighborhood. He had little restaurant experience going in, but a clear intention: make every burger and taco like it was for a friend. His wife Carolyn backed the idea from the start.
Decades later, the burgers are still the draw, with a reputation as a San Antonio classic that's held up across generations. Nachos and other bar-menu staples round things out, though regulars are more consistent in their praise of the burgers than the nachos. Crowds and waits are part of the deal here, and by most accounts, worth it.
The restaurant still runs out of its original Blanco Road building, with a party room for private events and live music on Thursday evenings.
