Street & Co has occupied its spot on Wharf Street — the pedestrian-only cobblestone lane tucked between Commercial and Fore Street — since Dana B Street founded it in 1989. The restaurant describes itself as a Mediterranean, bistro-style, all-seafood kitchen, built around what's freshest from local purveyors, fishermen, and organic farmers rather than a fixed rotation of dishes.
The dining room's open kitchen view gives the room an intimate, watch-it-happen feel, and regulars have made a habit of returning for it. Service can vary from visit to visit, but that hasn't kept the crowd from treating the seafood as worth the occasional wait.
More than three decades in, it remains a fixture just off Portland's working waterfront in the heart of the Old Port.
