Our Take

Oun Lido's makes a case that Portland's Cambodian food is more interesting than its lobster rolls, and it wins that case with specifics. This is the team behind Công Tử Bột, and the same instinct for high-contrast flavor shows up here: lemongrass beef skewers with real char and heat, a twice-fried lemon chicken that's crackling on the outside and stays tender through it, mi goreng built on frilly egg noodles in a sweet soy curry that ties the whole plate together. Nothing on the menu reads like a safe bet for tourists. It reads like a kitchen cooking for the community that's been in Portland since the late 1970s.

The format helps rather than hurts. Order at the counter downstairs, eat upstairs or walk it over to Tommy's Park, and the food loses none of its intensity for the informality. Adding the second-floor room gave them more seats without softening the operation into something fussier than it needs to be.

Local coverage has caught on, and a national list took notice too. Both are secondary to the actual case: this is Cambodian cooking with real specificity and heat, served without apology, in a city that needed exactly this.

The Spot
Oun Lido's serves Cambodian cuisine from 30 Market Street in the Old Port. It began as a takeout and delivery counter before indoor seating was added, and self-service elements still carry over into the dining room experience.

Hot lemon chicken is the dish most associated with the place, and fried chicken draws its own following alongside a menu built around less common Cambodian dishes. The decor and atmosphere get noticed on their own, even as some describe execution across the menu as inconsistent.

Oun Lido's was named to Portland Press Herald's best-of-2025 list and has been covered by The Infatuation.
