The Spot
Flattop & Salamander takes its name from the kitchen equipment that runs the show — a flattop grill and a salamander broiler. It was opened by Samantha Castle and Todd Brown, who bring a combined 40-plus years of industry experience to a Southeast Portland spot built around all-day brunch.

The menu runs from classic plates like two eggs with hashbrowns and choice of protein to house-made corned beef hash with poached eggs, chicken and waffles served maple-and-bacon-butter or hot chili honey style, and Honduran baleadas with refried beans, queso, and crema. Biscuits and gravy, a baked French toast, and vegan and gluten-free options round things out, backed by a cocktail list that leans into brunch drinking.

Portland Monthly featured the bar program here, calling out a flaming Spanish coffee made with Heart Coffee beans and rum alongside a tequila-and-chartreuse cocktail called the Unencumbered. Another national travel guide praised the kitchen's breakfast cooking, singling out the chicken and waffles and the Honduran baleadas.
